Sake sets are generally used by the Japanese to serve alcoholic beverages made from rice. In most cases these sake sets are crafted from ceramics but nowadays you may find them in glass or lacquered plastic varieties. Sets are available in most shops but in some places you may have to buy your cups and trays as also the pot separately.
Serving utensil or pot is known as tokkuri and is usually bubble bodied with a slender neck. This narrow neck helps to prevent heat from escaping when the sake is being warmed. Drinking cups range from lacquered glasses to shot glasses which are widely used in the USA. Masu are the glasses used by traditional Japanese outlets to serve this beverage. They are usually made from clay, but at time porcelain is also used. These pieces are very delicate and have intricate designs and pictures carved or drawn on their surfaces.
Japanese tea set collections are available in various styles and designs. You can buy them separately or you can buy them as sets. In most cases these sets cost about $10 while antiques could fetch exorbitant rates which usually are above $1000.
